Primary 6 investigate ‘How the stomach breaks down food’

2nd Mar 2026
As part of their World Around Us topic work, Primary 6 have been investigating how our stomach breaks down and digests food. Using lemon juice, a banana and crackers in a plastic zip bag, the children examined how food was broken down by the stomach acid. They used their hands to represent the muscles which physically breaks down the food while the lemon juice represented the chemical digestion.

The Primary 6 pupils really enjoyed this experiment (there were only a few funny faces pulled as you can see!!)
